I've got a Holley electric fuel pump that I need to install on my car. Motor is a carbed 400 sbc. Do I just plug off the return line (smaller one) and hook the pump up to the feed line (larger one) and I'm good to go? Do I need a regulator?

What pump is it?

99.99% of electric pumps will need a regulator.

 

yes you can block off the other line(s).. i did it for my car.. just one line to the pump and out to the carb.. carbs dont need a return line so just hook it up and your ready to run.. and you will most likely need a regulator.. pressure adjustment is always helpful when tuning..

 

Actually, if anyone can identify and give me some info on my pump that would be great. This is stamed on the bottom: Holley L-6145-2. I also see 3044 stamped on the bottom. I can't find any info on it.

 

is the pump red by any chance??? holley only makes one red electric pump and i found a hit on ebay.. the PN was L6145-24.. closest i could find to your L-6145-2.. it had what looked to be a red sleeve over the top of the motor.. there is a picture on the bottom..
well the specs i found are as follows:
Flows 97 GPH (free flow). Flows 71 GPH at 4 PSI. Maximum pressure is 7 PSI. Motor draws only 2 Amps current. 7-1/2 Amp fuse recommended.

it says that a regulator is not recommended for that pump. better for you.. but the down side is that it will only supply enough fuel for around 425hp max.. with the 400sbc you're runnin, i think you should opt for a blue or even black pump.. the blue will give you support till 550hp and the black will go up to 750hp.. both the blue and black will require a regulator..

 

Cool! Thanks for the info. That pump does look similar to mine. Since I'm in college and on a tight budget I'm just gonna run with this one. My motor prolly won't get any more mods, and I'm not pushing over 320 horse.
