I'm pissed off that they're $50 or more for a stupid idler pulley on a stupid metal bracket.
Anyone ever make their own? Even better- anyone have any idea where to get them super cheap?

First off, I don't think $50 is a too much money. I doubt most guys could fab their own for any less, when you factor time into the equation. The reason it costs what it does, is the mfr has to pay someone to come up with a workable prototype, then they have to invest in the tooling necessary to make it, then they have to pay to advertise. Given that the demand is so small for this particular product (in the grand scheme of things), I think you are getting a reasonable deal. Most guys I know, especially where I live, would rather keep their A/C.
Just my two cents...

my AC is locked up, so I figured it would be cheaper to delete than replace. I was wrong.
