Rod side clearance?
I have a new Scat crank and rods I am installing in my 350 block and I have been checking all of my clearances and I've made it to the rod side clearance and all of my rods measure exactly .017" and all of my manuals say it should be .009" - .013. is the .017" ok? or is something wrong?

Should be fine. On the list of things that REALLY MATTER about building an engine, that one is way down near the bottom. .009" - .013" is typical for an untouched crank, i.e. BRAND NEW MOTOR spec; but you cant reduce it during maching, except by welding up the crank. It can only grow otherwise, when either the crank is turned or the rods are reconditioned. It doesn't cause any problems until it gets up to .030" or so.
