headers/oil pan conflict

Soooo... I finally get my new engine fully assembled and everything, time to hook up the headers.

SFD(*#&$(*B& DSOIFJLK:W#@$ UW(*OIRJLI:J #W)U%RN?DFM

I used the oil pan that came with the engine figuring it would fit. My y-pipe is stuck between the oil pan and the crossmember. I cant get the end of the header closest to the firewall to line up *both sides*.

Im thinking of cutting the y-pipe before the flange on the drivers side and putting a piece of flexible exhaust pipe in its place.

^is a picture I threw together in paint.exe to give you an idea as to whats going on.

Red dot = oil pan
Blue dot = y-pipe
Green dot = crossmember

The y-pipe is BARELY fitting in that area between the pan and crossmember, If I was able to have even a half inch more room, I would be okay. Would the flexible exhaust piping solve this issue? I dont care if this is rigged up or what.. This cant stop me from getting my car running.

Another thing I was thinking about was to just run straight headers with no y-pipe, they would be pointing at the ground, im just afraid that its going to be WAYYYYY too loud.

Oh yeah, on a side note, I was driving through my sub on the way to murreys today and I saw a REALLY beautifull third gen camaro parked and the guy was walking to it, I stoped and told him about the forums. He was real excited to hear about them.

But yeah, any ideas as to how I can rig this up?

Sorry i cant give you any help with the Y-pipe as i have never had to do a y-pipe on a 3rd gen.

But i can tell you it would be hella loud if you ran open headers and would most likely end up catching something on fire... So, not a good idea.

BTW, good job spreading the word of TGO!

Apparently the flexible tubing I guess is way too restrictive and doesnt flow well at all, so putting a piece of that at the y-pipe would be totally pointless since im already doing a good amount of work to the engine. The guy at murreys suggested that I get rid of all my exhaust and run straight pipes to right after the axle.

This is severley holding me back, I dont have a car of my own, my camaro is my daily driver, I need a working solution to this problem and as of now I cant think of one myself. If you have an idea, tell me, I dont even care if its "get abducted by aliens, tell them you need a new exhaust system* I need a working solution.

I dont care if its ghetto, I dont care if its half assed, if it works, then im happy.

and how loud exactly are open headers?

You want getto? Half assed? The main problem is burning wires etc with running open exhaust. Get some $7.99 exhaust turn-downs from Auto-Zone etc and aim them at the ground. If you keep your foot out of the gas it ain't that loud. If the rest of your system is still on the car, you can just tell the officer you had a pipe come loose. He'll look but won't see anything; it is one of the few times the low ground clearance on a 3rd gen comes in handy! P.s. just don't be lazy like me and leave it that way for over a year...

The type of flex-pipe in this link flows just as much as regular pipe, and is avalible everywhere:
Exhaust Flexible Pipe

If you only need a little clearance, put the Y-pipe in the vise and squish it into an oval.
