Stuttering and hesitation?

Well I got on here tonight to learn how to check my error codes because the car was hesitating when I gave it gas, and I often got the "service engine soon light." SO.....

I checked the trouble codes and got "flash, pause, flash flash flash" which i assumed was code 13. I decided to check the car one last time, and i unplugged the battery for 30 seconds to clear the codes. I ran it for about 30min, still with the hesitation. Although now I have a new problem. Whenever I stopped the car, the rpms dropped low, like 250-500. I even had the car stall once (its an automatic). I started the car and went up the road about a mile to the next stop light and the rpms dropped low again. I gave it gas and it sputtered and stuttered for a good 30 yards then it hooked up and went like nothing was wrong. I limped it home after that.

Didn't get one single "service engine light".

So finally I checked it for any more errors and I got the "flash, pause, flash flash" over and over again. I assumed that meant "no error" since i never got a "service engine light".

Any idea what is going on?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure about the SES light? I'm not the best mechanic

But, if it is acting up when you hit the gas, I would check the fuel filter &
fuel pump. It sounds similar to the problem I had a few years ago... turned out my pump was failing.

If both of those turn out fine, I would check the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
and look for vacuum leaks.

Hope this helps.

Best of luck!

well I hollowed out the catalytic converter, ran a brand new tailpipe, and hooked up a new flowmaster exhaust. The hesitation isn't bad now, but i think it is still noticeable. I'm going to change the O2 sensor next and see what it does....
