89 RS Idle settings???

89 RS Idle settings???
OK, finally got my 305 purring like a kitten but have some Idle questions. When I first got camaro it was in need of maintenance and the TBI was one of them. So to keep it running at first I adjusted the fuel/air higher and then tried to adjust back down after maint. changes but think I went to far. Now with engine warm and in park it reads like 600rpm and lower in drive. What should this be? As long as I get this right the rest should fall into place, right?. It gets me to..when engine warm, in drive, at stop light when I hold the brake it hick-ups like its going to stall or surge then catch's itself. Any info would be appreciated.

I have mine sitting at about 750 in neutral ( 5 speed car) if your hood stickers are still there it details that for both the auto and manual, I will check mine in the morning and tell you for sure what the factory settings are.
The hic-up/surge thing is you IAC valve working. The ecm will try to maintain the idle speed and if it drops to low it will"catch it" by opening up and allowing more air in. ( just like blipping the throttle, and the same thing your idle air screw does) One thing we have to remember especially up here in the cold temps is dirty oil drops our idle speed ( usually as we get so much fuel in the oil it causes a rich condition through the PVC valve) before you set your idle air change the oil and filter, as well as the air filter, then if your idle speed changes you can tell something is wrong/changed !

Thanks Greywuuf, never even dawned on me about the IAC valve. GRRRRR, answer right in front of me and I didnt even think about it. The idle setting is not on my hood.....everything else but that, I have timing, belt installation and cautions but no idle.
I did how ever take your setting and bumped it up 100 rpm or so. I went to 850-75 and now I'll drive it to work this evening and see what it sits at with a/c on and at stop light but I think this will cure my hick up issues.

DUH!.... I went out and read my sticker and its not listed. There is a good reason it is not listed..... even says on the sticker "Do not adjust idle speed, it is controlled by the ECM" Here's what you do, go to the tech articles section and readthe article on TPS and IAC adjustment, you disconect the IAC and adjust the minimum idle air. hope this helps.
