Transmission Question
Transmission Question
Alright here's the skinny. I took my 305 out (seized it) and droped in a 350 put the 305 TBI on it didnt like it took it off and changed it over to carborated. Now i've heard some things about mods that have to be done to the transmission I have a th-700-r4 i no longer have a ECU, also was should i set my timming at, its controled by a MSD box there is no vacume advance. The main thing is my tranny, when i floor it to take off from a dead stop it revs high i always fear its going to red line so i let off and when im rolling i cant get it to drop down, it goes maybe one gear down. So my passing gear i have to do attomatically. Any advice would be great thanks so much

Did you reconnect the TV cable at the throttle linkage? Did you get a good geometry for the TV cable? Get the TV cable adjusted correctly?
The TV cable is the only thing that tells tranny when to shift. This gets tricky when switching to carb - you have to get a good sturdy bracket for your throttle cable and TV cable, and get the adapters to connect your TV cable to your carb linkage, and get the geometry correct for the TV cable so you can adjust it correctly - otherwisde you'll burn up the tranny in no time (like as short as 3 blocks).
Since no more ECM, you'll also need a torque converter lock-up kit installed in the tranny. This isn't an absolute requirement (like the TV cable), but without the torque converter locking, your tranny will run hotter (which evenually kills it), your engine will be at higher RPM on highway, and you'll burn alot more gas. It comes with a new 4th gear solenoid, new wiring, new harness to tranny, and a vacuum switch to lock the torque converter. About $80, TCI, B&M, and most other tranny people make them - they are at Summit Racing.
