Need hlp diagnosing ignition problems
My car is running but not well. It has almost no power, no matter what I do with the throttle. If load on the engine increases (a hill for instance) it will start to misfire.
With the car running I've checked Fuel pump voltage and pressure. Both are good. 12.5v and 48 psi at idle. I've replaced the FP relay and fuel filter already.
Charging system is good, just replaced the alt and batt a few months ago.
So now I'm thinking ignition. I tried replacing the ignition module. It helped very little. Im going to get some new plug wires and a cap/rotor today to see if that will help. I pulled a plug, and it looked ok. It wasnt white or corroded much. It did seem a little wet, which made me think fuel but no spark.
I'm just using a basic HEI system. How do I make sure I'm getting proper voltage to my coil? How do I check if the coil is bad? Are there any common problem spots I should check?
Could it be something affecting timing? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Ben
