whoa there sparky, slow down.
first off, welcome to the boards.

second off, check the FAQ forum, and the stickies in the engine swap forum for example. You're not asking new questions, so the answers are out there.

Anyway, stock lift is ~.480", but it's hard to say, due to casting irregularities. Best thing would be to put in a reasonable cam, then measure clearance, and get machine work done to the heads, or offset keepers, if you need them. I didn't need them to run .535" lift on 416 casting heads, but that's with aftermarket retainers and keepers anyway.

Like sonix said, you will have to measure the clearance on each individual valve guide to determine the max lift you can run. the valve guide heights on a single casting can be all different!

But being that its a carbed 305 and i assume its the original theirs no point in throwing a huge cam in there, especially if its an auto tranny. You will end up with even more of a dog for a car!

How about a little more info on the specific motor and the car its going into. That way we can help give some suggestions on what will work together for you!

BTW, welcome to TGO!
