External fuel pump location

I just installed a sumped fuel tank in my 1987 Z-28. The muffler would no longer work because it contacted the sump. I modified the exhaust to clear the sump (deleted the muffler). My question is: Where is everyone putting their in-line fuel pumps? It is tight under there. I know the fuel pump should be lower than the sump and as close to the tank as possible, but I really don't see how I can do that.
For those that have in-line fuel pumps, could you please post pictures. Also, how critical is it that it be close to the sump and below it?
Also, I am using a Mallory 110FI fuel pump which is a verticle mount pump rather than a horizontal pump. I have included a picture of the area, so anyone with suggestions can chime in.
