How long does it take for plugs to change colors?
I just got my engine up and going, and I thought I was too rich on the carb settings (factory 1411). I can smell fuel at times when cuising, and others have mentioned being able to smell it. I checked the plugs after 225-275 miles, 25-30 gallons of gas, and they are the best looking plugs ive ever seen come out of one of my vehicles. Barely anything on them, light tanish on one side of the center porcelin, and thats about it.
Milage seems poor,(9-12mpg) but Im waiting to recalibrate the carb once I get headers in and installed with the rest of the exhaust.

I'd think the plugs would change color very quickly, and it sounds like your mixture is good....?
what did you do with your evap canister? (or was that a stock piece in that car?) - could cause a gas stink
which plugs?
what compression ratio? are they the right heat range, is what i'm getting at.

Sounds right. When does it smell like fuel? Acceleration? Cruise? Idle?

It smells like fuel when I'm on the highway with a buddy behind. I can smell it when idleing in the driveway.
The evap can is not hooked up, and the lines where deteriorated, and the can was tossed before I got the car. I should probly find and check the lines and do something with them.
Im not exactly sure where compression is, static somewhere around 9.3:1.
Im not sure on Dynamic, but the cam specs are 224/234 .465/.485 on a 114lsa.

well is sounds like you need a new evap can...or you can do what I did and block off the line and get a vented cap...

I did that to my car, there's a filter to vent right below the fuel tank now... The car still stinks like gas, but i'm thinking that's 'cuz I actually am running rich as well.
