COLD START, HOT NOT,?????????????????????
COLD START, HOT NOT,?????????????????????
Hi Again Guy's,,, I'm still dicking around with my 91 350 Formula,, I can have my battery fully charged, the engine will crank over fine when cold,, after car has ran 20 or 30 min. and is up to operating temp, I shut it off and then try to start it right back up, engine cranks real slow like the battery is almost dead... my Alt. gauge read on the plus side while car is running, Does this sound like my starter is dragging from being hot,???.. or could there be a dead short in my starter that is draining my battery down that fast,???, The first time I noticed this problem was I started the car, let it warm up, and shut it off and did'nt try to start it for a week, the battery was drained, so I took it to autozone had it charged up and tested, they said the battery was fine, I bought the bat. last Oct.... From what I have been told, if it is my starter, it's a real nightmare to change it, is this true,????.. and would you recommend a mini starter,?? I don't have headers, but may one day... wadda ya guy's think could be my problem,?????, this car has only had 4 miles put on it in 4 years, Also, The car has almost 100,000 miles on it, and I am assuming it is the original GM starter...

Sounds like a starter to me, but check all your battery and alt. connections first.
If you're looking for a mini-starter you might want to check into an LT-1 starter. It's a high torque gear reduction mini starter that is much easier to squiggle in/out around the exhaust (stock or headers). It's set up to work with a 153 tooth flexplate like your engine has. A bolt-in. I use one on my 92 RS.
I beleive they sell them rebuilt on e-bay for about $75. I bought one at a local parts store for about $125.

What year(s) should I ask for,????... I called advance, or was it autozone,??, one of them said they thought they could get one for my year, and the other guy said they did'nt show it in his books... Should I ask for a newer LT1 model year,????... for a chevy or corvette, or Firebird,???????????????????..... What???????...... Does it matter,?????.. The one guy that said he could get one, said it would cost $169.00... yee haw...
