MAP Sensor and Vacume Canister 91 3.1 Camaro

I keep running into the same problem everywhere I go for this. I even bought a Chiltans Manual (had haynes before) to try Find the right vacume diagram.

Basicly, Lets say all the hoses where taken off. I labeled them all but, during weeks of rebuilding, and oil and dirt and all kinds of other fun stuff like paint too, Some of the lables tend to fall off or get dirty. The diagram I got shows nothing about the back of the plenum. I got a new vacume storage canister, and I have no idea where the map sensor goes into the system. also not sure about where the vacume for the heater is tied into it.

Anyone who owns a 91/92 3.1 camaro, or knows where these should go please let me know. I just want to have a running car again. Thanks!

I know the single port by itself(at the back of intake) is for the MAP sensor and the other one is for the brake booster and the port to the left of it runs to that check valve while one runs to the Orb(vacuum canister) and the other runs into the interior.

....

wish i could help more, but i do know what i would do in your situation....

try to find someone with any kind of General Motors 3.1 litre engine and take a bunch of digital photo's or atleast a goood look.. goto the junk yard.... or goto a car dealership...

do something scummy like, look for cars for sale with similar engines... and inspect thier setup... basicially if u want a running car real bad.. u can always do ur research and achieve what u want...

someone on this site might help u.. but if its putting **** bak together to get it running, and u have all the parts... it would take u no more than an hour or two to actually do this.... hope i helped u a little bit

p.s. a ****load of cars have the same basic engines... so ur in lots of luck... even a visit to the local Junk Yard might help u..

That should help out alot, Im gona print this out and run out and try it.

As far as finding a camaro with a engine still in it in a junkyard, lol, Umm. well Thats like finding a sunken galleon, one of those big treasure galleons from panama to spain. I had a 'friend' once helping me put an engine in one of my cars, it was at his house so we could use my lift (concrete driveway where mines gravel), He skipped town, and the car was sent to a junkyard, it was only there two days, Both windows where taken out, both front fenders where gone, the tail lights, and the hood. Needless to say, when any camaro ends up a junk yard here its a feeding frenzy. The engines the first thing they take out on the new arivals. Running or not, SO getting a peak at one with the vacume hoses intact is praticly impossible.

The problem with looking at other cars of the same age, Camaro/Firebirds are the some of the only rear wheel drive cars, Most have changed their set up altogether, gotten rid of the distributor, and all kinds of other fun stuff. I looked at a 3.8 front wheel drive buick and that only consufed me more.

I can't really go to any dealerships around here. I paid 2000 for my camaro and it was hit on the right front. It was the Only third gen I could find when I went to buy it. (I had a 92 at home intact - the engine for parts) Things haven't improved much either, as the third gens get older, its hard to find a dealership with one with an original engine. Most dealers even the junky dealerships, don't seem to bother with them at all anymore.

*EDIT* heres the updated vacume diagram. That look right?

One last stupid question, Would an exaust leak, cause the engine to rev up to 3k rpm, on start up then creep back down to idle speed?

Also would it cause the engine to get too much gas?

I think you got the vacuum diagram right...I didnt have time to peek at my ride but I am sure thats it.

Has for your questions I dont know if an exhaust leak would cause a high start up idle.Could be a computer related problem? But I know it can create a rich condition... oxygen sensor picking up very little oxygen thinking its lean and increase pulse width on injectors.Basically adding additional fuel,to compensate for the leak.
