89 Firebird not firing on 1 and 3 cylinders
Hello I have an 89 firebird that when i pull the 1 and 3 spark plug wires off the distributor make no difference in the idle.idle is at 1000 rpm however if the maf is connected the car is hard to start and idles rough.disconnect the maf and car starts but is still missing in 1 and 3cylinders.i have put a new injector on 1 and no difference.the injector i put on 1 is a little shorter than the original but the instructions said it would work.i checked the firing order of the plugs and that is right.i removed the plugs and the plugs fire but again i don't seem to get detonation from these 2 cylinders.i checked the voltage on all injector connectors and have 12.41 volts on all.i checked the resistance on all injectors and the ohmage is 3.6 to 3.8 on all.any help would be appreciated.
butch from tucson,az.
I did a compression check dry and 135psi on all cylinders, and does not leak down.should i still do a wet check because i don't think it will make a difference.my next thought is to check fuel system because i am getting spark on 1 and 3.

Do a compression check. You'll most likely find out #1 & #3 are low, and don't come up with the wet check. That's a good indication of a blown head gasket.

89 firebird missing 1 and three cylinders
Hello
i did a compression ck and 135 psi on all cylinders.found number three spark plug wire bad replaced no difference.took the dist cap and rotor off replaced with new some difference but still misses all ranges.did not do a wet compression ck.reason was 135psi in all cylinders and no leak down.as i said before i put a new injector on number one cylinder and no difference.
so what should i do next.i am all out of ideas.i did have a small whole in the flex pipe that goes to the egr valve pluged it with teflon tape and still no difference.does it make a difference in wheere the injector connectors go? as far as 1 3 or 5.looks to me that 1 is so far forward that it can't be interchanged.next question can i take the upper plenum off and still start the car? butchie49
