trying to get my 88 305 tbi running and have a question.


it's an 88 camaro 5spd 305v8 TBI, car was sitting for a while, when i went to start it for the first time in a while it turned over but didnt start, when i sprayed starter fluid directly into the injector area it started then died, so i had an idea LOL and had my girlfriend turn it over while i kept spraying fluid in it and it stayed running no problem and sounded great WHILE i was spraying fluid into it, but as soon as i stopped, the motor died.

I have a fuel fliter i plan on putting in but i dont think thats the whole problem because even if ts clogged it would still supply a little gas to the motor, or no?? how can i check if my fuel pump is dead without a pressure guage? if i hear it kick on does that mean its good? also could the problem be old gas, it had about 5 gallons of old gas in it and i was told if i filled it up with new good quality gas that it would all mix together (sort of concentrate itself into the old gas), i don't think it worked like they thought...


let me know some things to try because she runs, and sounds beautiful-- untill i stop directly feeding it gas or starter fluid... confused... please help

also the car is for sale as is because i never had the time to get it going but i want to get it running because its a beauty and i want to drive it before i sell it, and if i get it running ill most likely keep it. LOL

you can rent a fuel pressure gauge I think. Hook it up and crank the car over, and watch the gauge. If it shows ok, then leave that alone. I doubt it though, I think you'll notice in the range of 0 pressure, hence getting you to replace the pump... Just my guess though.

"old gas"? Care to explain? How long was the car parked? I think the fuel filter should be replaced either way, it *could* be completely plugged up.

 

Switch out that piece of **** tbi unit with a carb setup!

That would solve your issue and really wake your engine up
