My '89 IROC is starting to leak fuel

It just started on Saturday, I can now smell my car leaking gas.

I don't have a free garage bay at my home, so my car is currently parked in a garage I rent off of a family member. I got a call today, and was told I need to come take a look at it.

The lady who told me it was leaking said it was leaking up near the engine area, other than that I don't know much more; it isn't leaking "too much" at the moment; but who knows.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I drive a 1989 IROC 305 TPI

possibly a ruptured fuel line?... Is the car being driven or just parked?

Do the TPI's mount the fuel filter in the engine bay like the carbed cars? if so thats a possibility.

Your guess is about as good as ours!

This is one of those simple things we cannot magically dignose for you over the net. If its leaking, look around. Its gotta be coming from somewhere!

I got to take a quick look at it today. I think it may just wlel be the fuel line, looks like a small leak, I've lost perhaps a small puddle's worth of gas, so I'm thinking 8-ounces in roughly 96-hours.

Where the leak appears is right around the firewall as the fuel line takes a turn upwards to the engine. I can't get a good look at it, so i am sending it to the mechanic on Monday.

Does anyone think it could be something other than the fuel line?

Also, do you think it's safe to drive the 5-miles out to the mechanic.

It isn't leaking much (I know that it won't look too much more; at least until I power on the car and give the fuel pump some gas.) now, but do you all think I should tow it instead?

Well, how comfortable are you with fuel leaking around your hot exhaust, ignition firing constantly, and plenty of wind to stir up the vapor.

I wouldn't even start it if you loved your car.

Considering your fuel lines run on the drivers side and exhaust is on passenger, I think you'll be okay in that respect. I've had a worse leak before from the fuel tank (filler neck, only leaked on full tanks of gas or when I turned right really hard) and drove for three months with no fires. Not that I would recommend that but it worked for me.
