could it be the fuel?

The car has been sitting for two years and now that I want it running again I find out that the fuel pump is shot.

I put another fuel pump on it under the hood, and it works...however the car wont run for any length of time and when it starts it runs very poorly.

I'm assuming that I should drain the gas tank and start over with new gas. I think this would fix the problem.

Does anyone agree....? this car has always been a pain in my butt and this time is apparently no different.

thanks for the help

I had concerns about this when I put a new fuel pump in my truck. I had it 3/4 of the way filled up when the pump went out on it and it's a 32 gallon tank, also the truck sat for about 9 months before I could afford the pump and have the time to do it. The color of the gas was more red than the usual yellow so I drained it into a 55 gallon drum and capped it off to deal with it later. I talked with the local gas station owners who have been doing business since before my time and said that it takes several years for gas to begin to start breaking down. They recommended that I could just mix the old gas with new if I had any concern.

You might try just mixing some high octance gas with the old and run that tank out then fill the tank again and see how it does then.
