Power loss problem.
Well I wasn't really sure where to put this or how to explain it as I'm new to all this and to third gens...
I have a 1988 Trans Am (5.7L, 700r4) and it runs fine in first, nice and strong, but feels like it just falls flat on its face once it hits second gear. literally feels like all the power is sucked out of the car, it picks back up once it hits 3rd gear. I don't know what to think? tranny problem? engine?...
also I just replaced the TV cable and adjusted it so its not that.
hany help or suggestions would be great.

I initially thought TV cable, but you said you checked that.
The fact that this only happens in 2nd gear would lead me to believe it is not an issue with the engine, but the tranny. Does it seem like it is slipping at all, or searching for the gear when you shift to second? Or does it shift fine from 1-2, and then just loses power?

well, before you go chasing problems, keep in mind there is a large difference in the 1st and 2nd ratios on the 700R4. My 305TBI does the same thing.
First will snap you back, second blows(no exaggeration), and third feels like it should. However, my 305 carb with a t-5(manual) hits it good on all five gears.
It is possible you are having trans problems. Maybe the specific friction surfaces for 2nd gear have worn before the others. An option would be to pour in some lucas transmission stuff. If you felt a diffence in 2nd gear after that, I think it be time for a rebuild.
Best of luck.
