Crankcase fumes

I'm not sure where I need to post this. I have recently put a dual snorkel air cleaner on my L03. Since the L69 did not come with an IAT sensor I removed the breather from the air cleaner and used a push in Mr. Gasket valve cover breather. I then RTV'd the IAT sensor in the hole for the stock breather. Doesn't look bad I must say. Well this was all shortly after removing my AIR equipment too. Since doing all of that I have had a bad smell in the car when sitting at idle, especially with the vent blowing frsh air. When the A/C was on recirc it wasn't bad. Outside the car it is really noticable. I initially thought that the smell was a slight exhaust leak coming from the pipe plugs in the manifolds. Today I realized it was in fact coming right from the breather on my valve cover. I was sealing and re-tightening the pipe plugs and when I started the engine to inspect, big as life I saw the smoke coming from the breather. So to those of you who have used these breathers before have you had this problem? How is it remedied? Should I reinstall the old breather in the air cleaner? What if I wish to use an open element? Thanks guys. For the most part this isn't a huge problem, but when idling in horrendous traffic for over an hour (like last night trying to get into Atlanta Motor Speedway), it can be quite a problem. Thanks guys!

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Put the PCV system back like it belongs, with the little filter in the air cleaner; and drill a hole in the air cleaner for the IAT sensor.
