Ok so i go to pick up my car from being stored at a friends lots and I pop the hood to throw the battery in it and something is missing...........A few blinks later and its my VALVE COVERS and AIR CLEANER! So my question is what can I clean out the top of the heads with? Will engine degreaser work or brake cleaner? I figured after that it would be foloowed up with a oil change.....Thanks

Valvetrain -I would use a shop vac to try to remove some of the dust and dirt then use kerosene or #1 diesel to clean up the valvetrain area, remove the oil drain plug and dump a quart or two across the rocker arms and let it drain out thru the oil pan. Then dump a quart of oil across the rockers and let it drain out thru the oil pan also. Then replace the plug and put fresh oil in it.
If your worried about the carb and intake- Remove the carb and shop vac the intake plenum (area under the carb)then replace the carb. If it's been sitting long it might be a good idea to flush out and lube the combustion chamber area, Remove all the plugs squirt a little fresh 5w-30 (about a tablespoons worth) into each cylinder and crank the engine over for a few seconds and replace the plugs.
