Sudden oil pressure loss and not finding a reason??

OK first off I have a 89 RS 2.8
I was driving along at 35-40mph with the window down and I hear a rattle, I wasn't sure if it was from my car or the one next to me so I slow down a little and sure enough it was from my car.
One look at the oil pressure gauge and I shut it down and coast into the nearest parking lot, I had no oil pressure at all.
I towed the car home and did the first thing I could think of and pulled the distributor and checked the oil pump shaft, Looked fine.
The car always ran 40-70lbs of pressure before so I was thinking the oil pump must have had a sudden failure or that I spun a bearing.
To make a long story a little longer I decided I would just pull the motor since I had a couple broken exhaust manifold bolts I've been wanting to replace anyway.
I got the motor out today and didn't find anything wrong.
The oil pump gears seem to be fine, shaft turns smooth, I pulled the rear main cap and the next and found signs of normal wear but nothing else?
I blew air thru the oil passage and don't see an obvious problem there either.
I haven't dissected the oil filter yet but plan on doing that in the morning, I don't think that's the problem either since it was a sudden drop from 40-70lbs to -0-.
Where do I look now?
Can a spun cam bearing cause this?

First thing I would have done was to check the oil level. Get yourself a mechanical gauge, thread it into the block, get the oil pump going and see if it builds any pressure.

Of course I checked the oil level.
Trust me the gauge wasn't lieing it had no oil pressure, I realized that before looking at the gauge, It sounded like a bucket of bolts. All the lifters were clattering thats how I knew I had a problem, a very a serious problem, Just hearing it sent a chill up my spine.
