Missing and sputtering when warm
Removed msd 6a and put back to stock except for I am still using the MSD blaster coil. car will run fine when cold but as soon as it starts warming up will start backfiring and die. Restart right away and will crank no start. shut ignition off and wait 5 seconds and she will restart and run for a few seconds then sputter like she is starved for fuel and die. checked fuel pressure and am at 39 psi. when running. will wait 5 min. and she will run for 2-15 minuits before doing it all over again. This is a list of all the new parts less than a year old. New cap and rotor, plugs gapped at .45, new 8mm wires, tps, cleaned and inspected iac motor, o2 sensor.

Have you tried an Ignition Control Module yet?...classic signs of one overheating. Its located underneath the distributor rotor, theres grease(dilectric grease)between it and the distributor,it keeps it cool and probably has disappeared over time.

Thanks I will add some grease and if that does not work I will replace the ICM. On one other note I did get a check engine light at one time (about 3 months ago) stating no communication from distributor. Could this be the cause. Also I needed to call a shop because the code was not in my hanes manual and I do not remember the code.

Make sure your timing is correct to. I had a similar problem where my car wouldnt start once it got warm because my distributo was set to far in advance. Also check the the distributor bracket, if its loose the engine vibration might change the position of the distributor thus changing the timing.

I recently replaced the intake manifold gasket and I am sure that I tightened the distributor all the way. A technician here stated my distributor could also be bad, I need to remove the cap and see if the rotor is loose or wabbly. I will be in there anyways to check the ICM. I will let you know what I find. Thanks a lot and happy motoring.

fixed, it was the ICM. The old one looked okay but replaced it any way. I am running a distributor used from 87-93 with external coil. Now I will re-install my MSD 6A box. Thanks again for all your help
