Small block advice
I have a 69 chevelle that i want to build a 350 for and need some advice on what to put in it for parts to make 325-350 HP and still keep it a pump gas daily driver. the car will have 3.08-.342 gear in the back? have not decided yet.
I got a complete 350 given to me out of an 80 chev half ton. can enough bowl work be done to the heads to accomplish what i want with a set of flat top pistons and a mild cam? or should i look for a set of vortec heads? If so what is the correct casting number.

The 80's truck heads won't cut it, or at least it will be much more difficult to get there with them. Vortecs would get there easily. I'd suggest upgraded Vortecs from sdpc2000.com, they have a kit that includes heads good to .575" lift, intake manifold, gaskets, rocker arms, and bolts for about $1000 plus shipping. With 4-valve-relief flat-tops, you'll be around 9.5-10:1 CR (probably best with pump premium), and you'll be able to use enough cam to get there without even breaking a sweat.
