oh shoot, I forget now.
I think the 153 is referred to as the 305 size, and the 168 is commonly called the 168 size.
Is your block drilled for both starter styles? if not you don't have a lot of choice.
Try a search, I know this gets talked about a lot...

FWIW -> I used my flywheel from my 305 (153?), and I couldn't use the larger style since my T10 bellhousing wouldn't allow it. I also had a 350 block with only mounting holes for a 350 starter, putting me between a rock and a hard place. I just hand drilled and tapped the block for the 305 starter bolt pattern, and used the flywheel from the 305.

If you have a 92 block, it should have the bolt pattern for either.

You'll probably have less trouble with header clearance and such things if you use the smaller (12.8", 153-tooth) setup.

Unfortunately the stock starter for these cars for the 12.8" size is a downsized version of the old direct-drive Stone Age relic Delco starter that's been giving everybody fits for years. A gear reduction mini-starter, either an aftermarket one or an AC/Delco such as the one for LT1, is a VAST improvement. I highly recommend ditching the stock one and upgrading to a better one.

thanks. so i should upgrade to a ministarter. no problem. most of the ones i was looking at say for 153 and 168 teeth, they have 4 mounting holes. am i assuming right ? my block has 3 holes the two across from eachother, and one inboard closest to front of motor. make sence ?

Right, you'd use the 2 "outboard" holes for the 12.8". Your block has both bolt patterns.
