AIR pump pulley removal
I know some people are in favor of removing the AIR pump and some arent, just out of curiosity if i wanted to remove just the pulley from the front of the AIR pump and just have the belt run directly from the AC compressor to the bottom of the crank pulley, would that hurt the exhaust or the steel tubes that connect to the exhaust manifolds, or make it run funny or anything of the sort? Thoughts???
It should not hurt anything by removing the pulley, just no more air will be pumped to the catalytic convertor or exhaust manifolds.I am not for sure but this may cause a check engine light.I know on newer vehicles it checks the air pump by watching the 0-2 sensors when it switches the valves on to see if it is working.

There is a tech article on this in the Tech Article section of this website, and no it wont set a SES light. The only thing our computers look for is the EGR.
But, keep in mind removing or disabling any emissions equipment on a street vehicle is a federal offense, regardless of your state's emissions testing laws.

But will i hurt anything by leaving the pump unit on the car, and only removing the pulley, like will the exhaust and heat from it go into the pump unit and harm it in some way???
