What can you tell me about my motor?
I'd like to know as much as you can tell me about my motor. Searching through GM casting numbers nothing comes up.
One the driver side of the flange on the back of the motor is simply says GM 5.7 with 5 letters.
On the PASSENGER side of the block it shows the casting number, "10243880". I've gotten all kinds of conflicting information about this number, some say its a roller motor, some say its flat tippet. I've seen sites say its a truck vortec motor, or a ZZ4 crate motor, or a GM Goodwrench 350 crate motor. What is the difference? What is it?
All I know about the heads is they are the centerbolt style. I have yet to pull a valve cover to get the head casting but I will be doing that very soon and will post in this thread.
I cannot see the date casting because there are brackets and accessories in the way.
So based on this, what can you tell me about the motor? The block, internals, cam, heads, etc, assuming they are stock? All I know is I have a TBI from an L03 sitting on top of it with 90# injectors off a 1988 454 Suburban. Do I have an L05?

Theres two possibilities as far as the "roller engine" part goes.. it could have provisions for roller lifters, but just have flat tappets in there, like the trucks used, or it could be a roller motor. The roller lifters had a substantially shorter pushrod... how long are yours?
The 'GM 57L' does mean its a 4" bore block though, so yes, its likely a 350. A 305 would have 'GM 50L' on the back.

FWIW, this casting does not necessarily have to have 4 bolt mains. I have a 2-bolt version from a 1997 1/2 ton Express van. This is the same casting numbers that are on the GM Goodwrench engines that I have in my 1997 Express and my 1983 G20.
