Just for information the Speed Pro forged pistons I bought came with the skirts coated from the factory.

Coating the piston tops is particularly helpful on boosted or juiced motors. The coating maked them much more detonation resistant. Many factory pistons these days come with coatings on teh skirts already as well. My opinion on coatings? On a run of the mill street motor, it's not worth the cost. but on a race motor, it's worth it. A friend is building a blown 392 Hemi, he's having the pistons, chambers, valve faces, and exhaust ports coated. Remember, the more heat you can keep in the cumbustion chamber, the more power you'll make.
Techline Coatings has many great coatings. They are very picky about prep, so you might be better off sending your parts to Techline and having them do the coating instead of trying it at home.
