What's wrong with my car?

Anybody know what's wrong with my TPI 305?

The service engine light keeps coming on. It's idling crappy, like its dropped a cylinder, kind of a whump whump whump feeling idle (if that makes sense). It seems to be running OK off idle on up. It's trying to overheat. and something smells hot. Not like coolant, like hot metal when your welding or something.

The coolant level is fine and the problem occurred suddenly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Bump

Could I have an injector hanging open? It smooths out when you stomp the gas. The service engine light didn't come on this morning but it idled like crap.

Idle rpm was all over the place.

Check for broken vacuum lines and look up the tech articles on adjusting your TPS and IAC. Try all that, and see what happens.

I'm starting to suspect a sensor since it only starts acting up after it's hot. Where do I find the info on setting up sensors that you mention?

By the way the car had sat outside at the airport for a week in rainy weather before it started acting up. Might or might not make a difference.,

If it still acts up tomorrow (no reason it won't), I'll probably call around and find someone who can put a scanner on it. That should give me some idea where to start, shouldn't it?

Thx

Do a search on how to read the codes yourself. Its easy and all you need is a paper clip. That is where you must start.
