LG4 Timing
Ok, i put my fresh rebuilt LG4 in on saturday, and it starts and runs, no leaks, no knocks or pings. But to get it running right I had to turn the distributor counter clockwise to the point were the #8 spark plug wire on the distributor was where the #1 should have been, it doesnt matter to me where the cap is, but what would I have to do to fix it? Pull the distributor, move the oil pump shaft clockwise a smidge and then move the distributor clock wise a smidge also? When I check the timing I made marks every 1/4 turn on the harmonic balancer for setting my roller rockers and I have the timing lead on the #1 spark plug but when I check the timing where it is now the mark for what i beleive is the #8 cylinder is hitting the 0* mark on the tab. If it is not a problem than Im not worried about pulling anything, just want to get some opinions on if the distributor was off a tooth on the gear or not, thanks!

Sounds like it's one tooth off. But, set the timing with the #1 spark plug, it doesn't matter where the wires are with respect to the cap or engine/car.
