my car has been giving me problems as i believe my coil has become weaker and weaker at creating a good spark...the car does everything but fire when i turn the key and i am pretty definate that it is the coil.

tonight, i replaced the coil w/an autozone coil (15 bucks) and i just quickly hooked it up (didnt mount it yet) and then tried it and got the same ol same ol...i checked for spark the old fashion way and now im getting NOTHING...before i atleast got a weak tiny little spark now theres nothing...????

whats the deal? could the brand new one be defective? any ideas?

i reconnected the old coil and still no spark at all...FUSE related?

 

check the ignition mod.

 

I'd have to say ignition module.

 

+ side of the coil gets a constant 12V any time the ignition key is tured to the "on" position (excluding VATS or other weirdness). It's always "hot." The - side of the coil is what the ignition module plays with. It alternately grounds that side of the coil (completing the circuit and charging the coil) or breaks the ground to that side of the coil (causing it to fire). The ON/OFF behavior of the ignition module is what causes the coil to throw sparks at the proper time.

If the module is bad it could cause the symptoms you are experiencing. Although, usually modules either work perfectly or not at all.

 

u guys were pretty close...it was actually the cap and rotor...the rotor was carbon filled and corroded along with the cap posts (on the inside)...i replaced both with accel (nobody had msd) and the car seems to be doing much better...i also replaced the coil with a msd blaster coil

i dont know how long they should last but i replaced my ign module when i first bought the car about 4 years ago...or 25,000 miles ago i should say

its finally getting cold in Texas and my car has always had a cold start problem...so its doing pretty well so far thx for all the advice
