Posted in exhaust..no answer. Where is it safe to lift engine?

I'm about to instally my hooker 2210 LT headers and have read that I'll have to lift the engine several inches to help bring the headers in from underneath. My question is can I put a say, 10" long 2x4 piece on my floor jack and jack the engine up from the oil pan? I'm using a Moroso pan and didn't want to crush the bottom, bend the oil pickup or damage the seals. I just didn't know of any other ways except maybe the header mount holes in the head. I only need to lift the engine 3" or so. Comments / tips appreciated.

Hummm I didn't have to lift mine at all, running the energy suspension motor mounts. Only thing I did do was cut off some of the header flange on the passenger side where it had already been cut. Anyway, yeah just put a block of wood under the pan to help even out the pressure, and don't forget about taking the 2 bolts out for the motor mounts.

If you are going to lift it with an engine crane, I used the exhaust bolt holes and accessory holes in the heads and never had a problem (although aluminum heads might be more risky).

If you want to jack up the motor from below, get a junkard balancer, slip it over the crank in place of your current balancer, put a 2x4 or 4x4 wood under it and jack it up there. I've done this as well and its worked well for me too.

I use one of those intake lift plates. Otherwise I go by the accessory bolt holes on the heads.

The factory lifting loops used to be bolted to the back s of heads, intakes, water pump bolts, exhaust flange bolts, and various other locations. Any place that has a 3/8" bolt is usually satisfactory, unless it's threading into aluminum.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'll try first without lifting (I also am using new ES mounts). If not then I'll of course take the two motor mount bolts out and use a 2x4 piece under the pan to spread the weight load and jack up if necessary. I was going to use the stock lift loop on the PS rear head and the DS accessory hole in my Iron Eagle heads but didn't want to take the entire upper half off the engine. I would remove the upper half because it's all newly polished with clear coat applied and I don't want to risk scratching.
