stripped oil drain plug

stripped oil drain plug

i just recently had my oil changed and a few days later i knowticed a few drips coming fromt he plug so i went to tighten it and by my suprise it just easily turned so i was thinking wow they didnt tighten the drain plug so i turned it agian and it got tight then loose right away, so i drained all my oil and took a good look at the drain plug that part it self is fine but the hole in the oil pan apears to be stripped out. do they make a kit to repair this? or whats the best way of fixing it?

easiest way is to just get a pan saver plug otherwise youll have to oull the oil pan to fix it

They make "oversized" oil plug bolts.

why not take it back to the place that stripped it out and make them pay for it?

Obviously the guy notice it didn't snug up and though "Oh ****" and left it hoping it would be ok.

I did an oil change 2 weeks ago and my plug didnt seem to want to snug up and I reacted the exact same way. I will likely have to tap it come next oil change. Hope not though

Making them pay for it would be a hassle. Especially since threads strip from fatigue, no one can really make the threads strip out, they just happen. See this recent thread. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...ml#post3084713

don't re-tap it, you'll end up with metal shavings in the pan. Get the plug saver kit from Advanced Auto Parts for like $4 and be done with it. Don't take it back to the genius the f'd it up either. Chances are that he's going to screw it up worse than he did the first time

i actually work at an oil change place and they do cover stripped oil pans although stock chevy oil pans are real hard to strip only possible way is to cross thread it and tighten it all the way unlike those pos aluminum pans on most dodge fwd's

i took it back there and they said they didnt do it. they said it was moslikly done when i tried to tighten it up. anyways i put a one over in and it still leaked so i tried to tighten it more and it striped agian. I pulled the pan off..... PAIN IN THE REAR! to do.... stupid oil filter. i just welded in a nut. i still need to put the pan back on though. just got to tired and wore out to continue this what i thought would be a small repair of just tightening a bolt!

im gunna see what i can do with the shop that did it cause ive never had a problem with it before.
