so i juss dropped my rebuilt 305 back in my 86 camaro and try to start it but it wont fire, and gas shoots out the exhaust.. any ideas on what it might be?

Just rebuilt...put it in...no start...Why?

This could be a very long list........

Give some info, maybe we can narrow things down:

Why was it rebuilt?
What was involved? (Was it a complete rebuilt or a repair of some sort)
Did you do the rebuild?
Does it simply turn over...try to start...sputters?

Then...
Did you check for spark?
Is the distributor turned 180 degrees out?
Plug wires correct?
What intake/induction do you have?
What fuel pressure are you running?
Any peculiar noises while turning the motor over?
Rocker arms/valve lash adjusted?
