What camshaft shoul I use?

I have a 1986 Z28 with a 305 and carburated. I would like to replace the camshaft just to gain some more power. I was hoping you guys could tell me the best cam I should get.

As always do you have to pass emissons? If so try something like the crane 2031 or 2032.If you dont try a comp. xe256.Is this a flat tappet cam or roller?86 I think flat tappet? Also is this a L69?

Also if you have the stock intake, headers and exhaust you should do that even before you change the cam.Intake, headers and exhaust will make a bigger difference then just throwing in a new cam.The motor needs to breath better first.Edelbrock sells a performer intake that is emissions legal and hooker or edelbrock along with other companies sell headers and exhaust for your car.

You need to go look at the "305 Differences" thread on the FAQ forum. It details the order of modifications for performance.

In summary: Exhaust, air cleaner (switching the order of those two could be argued), cam, heads, intake.

For the record, '86 would be flat tappet (assuming it's the original engine). '86 L69's were very, very rare.
