fule pump running while engine off
Just got this new pump installed a week ago. No problems. Yeasterday went driving around all day without problems. Last night I went out to the car just to look at it (fresh wax yesterday) and heard my fuel pump motor running. Opened gas cap and felt constant pressure coming out. I started the car and shut it off...pump still running and not shutting down. Pulled the relay. Still running! I finally just d/c's the neg batt cable and decided to figure it out this morning.
The only other thing I did yesterday was look at myfuse panel to attempt wiring my seat motor. I pulled the driver side kick panel off and looekd at the wiring. (Maybe I just looked at it wrong
)
I d/c's one connector (think it was for the door locks/window) and plugged it back up. Then I pulled some big black relay out of the space in the sheet metal behind the kick panel thats held in with a piece of black sticky stuff but didnt disconnect anything before putting it back where it supposed to go.
I've heard the fuel pump ground is there somewhere. Maybe I messed something up in that area.....thats where the fuel pump ground is right?
I couldnt see any loose wires or anything. What have I done??????

Well i did just replace the oil switch, but that was before the new fuel pump.
Is this a common solution to a common problem, or is unplugging that connector a means to diagnose?
What gives? You think it may be the oil pressure relay to to the pump?
Thanks

If it's wired like an '88 the switch works in parallel with the relay. Either one can turn the pump on. If you unplugged the F/P relay and the pump was still running, it ain't the relay. That only leaves the switch and it's wiring. Are you sure you unplugged the F/P relay? My 88 has 3 relays in a row that look similar.

A bad OPSU will make the pump run constantly - been there done that. It'll kill the battery after about 3-4 days without starting car. Replace the OPSU again.

To the first question, yes I made sure i pulled the fuel pump relay. Looked in the wiring diagrams to make sure I got the one with wires red, org, grn/wht, blk, gry.
I see your reasoning now.....must be the opsu or the relay there.
I'll replace it with a delco.
Thanks alot!
