Block ID??
where to find block #'s?
i think i have a 305 tpi. how to tell the difference between 305 and 350?
i think the only obvious way is the balancer??
i bought the car(91 Z28 102K miles) about a month ago. whoever had the car, had the motor out/apart. the heads ,tpi and exhaust manifolds are painted. yes exhaust manifolds. oil and tranny pans are spotless, no oil leaking anywere on motor. so im thinking the motor was replaced/rebuilt. so im not sure what motor i have on there? and my check engine comes on every once in a while.
looking for help with this:

The only way to tell for sure is to disassemble it and measure, or to check the casting numbers on the top rear of the block behind the driver side head.

Apeiron hit the nail on the head. Those are the only ways to know for sure. You can take a valve cover off and get the head casting numbers but because you have 350 heads does not necessarily mean you have a 350 any shade tree mech can swap the heads around.
Behind the driver side head there on the bellhousing flange it should have a casting of 5.0LG or 5.7LG on the passenger side it should have the casting numbers of the engine itself.
Then go to MorTec, Inc. Home Page and look up your head casting numbers and engine casting numbers.
