Alternator Conversion Harness Questions
I just finshed up my v-belt to serpentine conversion using the following AC Delco harness to convert from the factory 2-pin alternator to the newer CS-130 4-pin connector.
Parts Information | ACDelco
When I fired everything up I found that the alternator wasn't charging and I traced it back to a faulty brown sensing wire (0 volts, ignition on). The gauge in the car works fine and the wire is in tact up to the firewall so it must be someplace in between the gauge and firewall. I wasn't able to locate the wire so I hooked the brown sensing wire up to a switched 12V source. My question is, will this cause a problem with under/overcharging or some other unforeseen problems. The conversion harness has a resistor built into it for the sensing line and it now runs consistantly at 14.4V. Here is a wiring diagram, originally an 85 LG4 Camaro.
Thanks,

You should be ok, the only potential problem is that you moght need a diode in that brown wire, if the car continues to run after you turn off key. 14.4 volts is not a problem, in fact thats about perfect.
I just did the opposite retrofit. I went from a Serpintine system back to a 86 v belt system. I required a diode, but since then everything is A ok

It shuts off just fine so far. There may be a diode in the harness as well, I'll double check and throw one in the circuit if needed. Thanks for the help.
