400 build...what do you think?

well im planning on putting together a 406 for my 91 z. Was just lookig for advice/opinions from the gurus as to what i should change/keep the same and what you think it will pump out. my plans are as follows. the short block is already built, and is like to get some 5.7 rods and forged pistons, but it wont happen right now, so thats the only thing that has to stay the same. other than that im open to changes

-406 short block
-stock crank and rods
-speed pro hyper pistons -21cc dish
-edelbrock victor jr heads 215cc runners 58-60 cc chambers (milled to get around 10.3-10.5:1 compression) also fully cnc ported, titanium valves
-something like a comp xe284 (.507/.510, 240*/246 @.050) or the comparable lunati voodoo cam
-Harland Sharp 1.6 roller rockers
-Holley Stealth Ram, 52mm throttle body
-Hooker 1 3/4 super comps

-all bolted up to a T56 and a nice clutch
-3.73 rear

what do you think the car will run with that? will i still make plenty of torque down low, or are the heads too big? any cam recommendations? im shotting for around 450 hp and 450-500 ft/lbs

sounds like a good setup. I wouldn't bother with 1.6 rockers though, the XE/voodoo setup won't need it. I think you'll be looking at the 60105 voodoo cam IIRC.

nah, just thinking out loud. The xe/voodoo's have fast ramp rates, and don't need the help of the 1.6 rockers. You can go to a lamer ramp rate cam, but... Well heck, thats a terrible idea, I don't know why I even thought of it.

Just make sure you measure your deck height, etc. Get the CR ratio measured up right. Make sure the heads have steam holes. That's all i've got for ya, I think you're on the right track.

That topend is intended to move some air at 5500+. I would get something other than stock rods. I would tend to get some lower buck heads initially (like a vortec) and fix the rods now. You can always replace heads easier. Your gonna have to balance it anyway, Id be more inclined to do it when its going together for the first time. Yes, it will probably make 450+ hp, but it will right at the point that reliability is in question.
