Install Steering Wheel = Car Won't Crank
This happened last night right before work so I didnt get much time to troubleshoot this yet, but I installed a new steering wheel and now the car won't crank over. Car is a 1991 Camaro RS w/ L03/700R4, steering wheel is a Grant GT. Disconnected the battery, disconnected the Airbag clip under the steering column, SIR fuse was already pulled when I first got the car (been running fine), removed the airbag, pulled the stock wheel, installed the new wheel, reconnected the battery, turn the ignition on and I get nothing. I know I'm not supposed to remove the airbag, please don't tell the FBI. But seriously, anyone have any ideas? We installed this same steering wheel on a friends 1991 Z28 few months back and had no issues. I checked the battery and its good (good voltage), lights all turn on. But now when I turn the ignition on the starter won't crank, I get nothing except some static/popping from the speakers, similar to what you hear when you got a bad audio ground. This is what makes me think the problem is grounding related. I'm guessing I'll have to troubleshoot further and check the starter to make sure its getting power, but I figgured I might as well post the question here and see if anyone has experienced this before. Maybe something in the steering column needs to be grounded or else the starter circuit gets shorted? If anyone has any ideas, I appreciate the help ...

Your problem with the cranking is the VATS system ohm the chip in your key and you have to put in a resistor to replace the one in the key there is an article on the site about this.

After I woke up I had some time to take a better look at this. I had some troubleshooting steps lined up but I decided to go over what I had touched first, could be a stupid mistake. Turns out the reason I got no crank was because I had accidentally disconnected an extra clip. So yeah, stupid mistake haha. I haven't had time to research what clip that was, but under the steering column by the yellow SIR clip is another smaller black clip. The wires are loomed together so I thought they were both for SIR. Turns out only the yellow is for SIR, the little black one will cause a no start condition. Just reconnected that small black clip and the car starts fine, runs good. Probably should have spent more time with it before posting but I was desperate because I had to move the car quick (mailman gets all crazy when a car blocks the mailbox). Sorry about that and thanks guys!!
