pinging sound???

pinging sound???
i want to set me timming ahead for better preformance... everyone has been talking about pinging.... i guess this is when you set the timming to far in advance or something. what does this sound like at idle.

You usually will not hear the pinging when the car is at idle. You will hear it when you are acclerating especially when going up a hill. It will sound like a very fast knocking sound.

My cousin told me it sounds like "a bunch of pop bottles rattling around in the trunk".
I wouldn't advance the timing on your L98 to get power. Look into a better chip perhaps, with a better timing curve.

well thats just in theory.. got new cam form comps comming... looking into heads, exhaust, intake etc.. i do need a chip but i dunno.. those things scare me. my grandpas truck ahd one and it balled up the tranny so im scared to use on in my auto.. got any good reputable companies to use?
