New 3rd gen starting problems...
Hey guys, I'm new to the Camaro world...I have an '86 Cutlass that I built a SB 350 for, swapped the motor, and once I started the body work, I realized that there is more rust than I care to deal with (stupid New York car!). Anyway, I bought a 1990 Camaro RS 2.8 mpi to house my engine. I will not be doing the motor swap until Feb 07, so I was hoping to get this one running until then, but I don't want to put in too much $. Maybe you guys can help:

Sorry..cat walked across keyboard. What I was saying is that the car won't start. It turns over with the key, I can hear the whirring of what I believe is the fuel pump, and I can smell gas (though I don't know how long the gas has been in the tank). I have not yet pulled a plug to check for spark, but I have to honest in saying that I don't know much about this electrical computerized stuff. Any ideas? Again, since I will be swapping this 2.8 for the 350 I built, I don't want to put much into this motor, but it would be nice if I could get this one running so I can start tearing down the Cutlass. Thanks! And I am excited to see what kind of things that I can do with this car....

Not sure what VATS is, but I think it'd stop you from starting the car altogether.
So car cranks, gas smell, but no fire? Spark or timing sounds like it. I'd pull a plug and check it out. Maybe get someone to crank it while you hold the plugs ground electrode against the block, look for spark.

I just pulled a plug...its got spark. I bought this car for the straight body for $400. The guy I bought it from has no idea what's wrong with it (he told me that the only problem with the car is the engine), so it won't help to ask him if he has done or removed anything...

any trouble codes stored in the computer? try pulling the codes with the "paper clip" trick. (search on here for it.)
