emissions help

my camaro (1987 carburated 305) is running extremely rich (smoking black), has soggy throtle response, and gets like 10mpg. from some of my research this may have been as a result of the previous owner messing up the emissions system. i have no cat and i may be missing an o2 sensor or sometihng. could the messed up emissions system be causing my all of my problems?? and if so, how do i fix it?? thanks for your help.

it doesn't sound like emmision problems to me,sounds more like a screwed up carb flooding.i don't have my o2 senser hooked up and nothing changed on mine.see if y9ou can get another carb off someone and try that

so you lost your o2 sensor and it runs fine???? then do you think that it could be my choke? cause that was next to check out on my list.

ok fellas, Z28er lives in Canada. He probably has a non-cc carb. He can do whatever he wants and it'll run peachy (haha, jealous much guys? )

Impaled - what carb are you running? If it's the stock computer controlled setup, your symptoms scream no O2 sensor, now that you've admitted that, get 'er fixed! Then look into choke.
Getting any error codes?
