I hate auto choke and want to install a manual one on my V8 car. Choke has been disabled for years. I just pump it. But you can get them remote do it yourself install start kits for dirt-cheap.

It would require an automatic choke and a throttle kicker. That's the way they used to do them.

Anyone got a manual choke? Where does it hook up?

My choke linage is gone and why going auto would be to much work.

Id need to be able to hook my choke cable right to the tab on the top choke flapper.

Any pics or tips. air cleaner will need a hole in it I bet.

I've had both auto and manual chokes. If an auto choke is working right, I definitely prefer that, for the simple reason that it's so easy to forget to push that **** in once you get driving then you don't even notice it til you've burned $20 in gas in 35mi.
The manual choke kits usually require the existing auto choke parts are there to begin with, unless it's a Holley.
It's different for different brands of carbs.
What carb do you have?

Just a regular Qjet.

The linkage that goes through the carb body to choke plate is unhooked.
The heat tube on the intake is broken off and sealed.
There is no way to hook it up once installed. Carb need yanked n pulled apart to fix the linkage right.

Was thinking of getting one of them used rebuilt Eddy qjet clones.
Not a holley fan and the Eddy carbs are just qjets with more options.
Qets aren't so bad if set up right.

That or find someone who can re-do my qjet [ain't no one local I trust]
or other and even better if I could get someone to get it set darn close so I am not all over the place trying to tune it right.

I don't need a choke. Car starts fine at any temp and run ok. Just you can't start it up and walk away like my V6 3rdgen. Gotta give her 3-4 pumps to start and give her gas for a min or so before she will idle on her own.

Like to run out to the car, start it and run back inside like the V6.

But I never liked auto chokes. They always end up staying on to long and I end up adjusting it all the time, never finding that sweet spot. I then get sick of that 35-40mph idle and disable the sucker. I guess I could run a auto on a switch to turn it off if electric but still the same as manual.

Though once warmed up 100% the primary choke plate should be straight up and down right?

Mine never liked that. I have to jam it at slight angle for it to be happy.

EGR is diabled/broken. I no longer have my heat riser valve in exhaust.

Prolly what happened is that the heat riser got jammed up with crud and that made the auto choke stay on too long then someone just unhooked the linkage.
Those kits all need the original linkage to be connected, cause they connect a cable to the auto choke mechanism.
A good Qjet that's jetted right might work nice without a choke.
Those Edelbrock electric chokes work nice when used with a thermistor. I can't remember if that's a Holley or Edelbrock part.
With HEI an engine starts pretty well cold without a choke.
But I've found that when the primaries are leaned out for good economy, the engine takes a longer time warming up before it reaches the point where it idles smoothly with no choke.
Maybe a cable operated fast idle is the solution. That way you won't be driving with the choke on accidentally.
