my a/c unit smoking, whats bad?

Axle/Gears: unknown/mostlikelycrappy
my a/c unit smoking, whats bad?
recently I noticed my fan was coming on even with the ignition key
half way turned(engine not cranked)
and my a/c control unit was smoking
I tried to stop it didnt stop,
and seems like when I put it to stronger fan speed, it seems to smoke more and more.
I unplugged the control unit and now its fine but Im without my a/c control..
is there anything to look at before I buy a new a/c control unit?(like relays?)
I already checked the fuse and taht was fine, thanks!!
