o2 sensor
i have a 1987 carburated 305, and i was wondering how many o2 sensors that it has and where they are at. if there are multiple i then believe that i am missing one. this would explain why my car is running rich and kinda dumb.
thanks.

you have 1 02 sensor provided you still are using the Computer controlled carb and factory style headers. It will be in the drivers side exhaust collector, screwed into the pipe with a single wire comming off of it.

should have a purple wire (single) coming off it.
If you're getting a check engine light, and it corresponds to O2 sensor, then indeed something is amiss with that.

no check engine light. my camaro is running rich and i was mainly wondering if there was also an o2 sensor behind the cat and if it had been taken out by the previous owner with the cat (someone told me that some cars had two), because i know that there is no sensor after the header. i am glad to know that he did not mess that up. thanks for your help

to go a little further:
-1993 used two, 1 wire, non heated O2 sensors
-1994 and 1995 used two, 4 wire, heated o2 sensors. 1 on each side pre cat
-1996 up used four, 4 wire, heated O2 sensors to comply with OBDII (2 catalytic converters, 1 before each cat, and 1 after each).
