NEW PISTON OPTIONS ?

my motor rebuild was running great but i chinced out and now i have lost 2 cylinders (rings) blowby and low compression. so now the money i have been saving for a new set af aluminum heads needs to be spent elsewhere. heres my setup.

92 350 l98 stock bore 9:3:1 comp
comp xr264hr12 cam .488in .495ex 212/218 at.05 112lsa
1.6 roller rockers
083 casting heads, p&p, 1.94,1.5 s.s. race flow valves,guids cut .531,comp 981 springs, 64cc
performer rpm air gap
holley 750 vac secondary
proform hei
2500 stall
3.42 gears

ok so i need new rings. im looking at catalog with rebuild kits. pistons, rings, bearings and gaskets approx $400.00

with .03 bore and 64 cc heads they list comp ratios of 9:35:1, 9:73:1, 10:72:1

what would be my best option to stay on pump gas and be good for my setup and future aluminum heads ?

suggestions ?

comp ratios can not be determined without knowing deck height of pistons, so while the motor is apart that can be determined if the block is zero decked. Something to talk to the machine shop about.

xpn, so i cant use the 9:3:1 (stock) advertised comp ratio to judge where i should go ? what ratio should i be shooting for, that will work with my setup? sorry but i havent got the math down on this stuff yet.

I'd shoot for the 9.7:1 ish range.

Chances are that's with a 5cc flat top piston that you're looking at there. But with a non-decked block. So your quench would be awful, and 9.7:1 would be dicey.

When you bore out the block, have them deck it, it may need it to be flat anyway. Maybe .015 or so.

Then use the 9.3:1 pistons, it'll put you close to 9.5:1 or so, IIRC.

I think I used the 9.7:1 pistons (5 cc valve relief flat tops), and decked the block, and ended up at 10:1 on the nose. Thats with a 1.54 piston deck height.
