If a person wanted to keep their car original with all matching numbers and the vehicle had a 165hp v-8, without putting in a different motor but by rebuilding the existing 305, what would be required to get the hp to 250-300 hp? It is so sad my 6 cyl. (240 hp)06 malibu ss runs circles around my 86 T/A.

Almost impossible to do with the stock air cleaner and exhaust. If you're willing to sacrifice those giveaways, it can be done fairly easily.

 

Unless your car is MINT, i wouldnt worry about number matching.

You can goto the junkyard and find lots of "numbers matching" cars, nothing about them is at all special.

If infact your car is in mint condition, and you want to keep it numbers matching so it will gain in value someday in the very distant future, then you might as well put it in storage and quit driving it.
