Smog Removal Questions
Hey there, next week my car is going to the shop to remove the TPI plenum to have it chrome plated, and my mechanic suggested me taking off my smog pump while the motor is not operational.
My question is two part,
One, if the pump/hoses are simply removed will it throw a code?
I no longer have a catalytic converter or exhaust manifolds, and Ive had a chip custom burned exactly for the car based on it's mods.
Second, If I just remove the smog pump belt but keep the pump hooked up will it still throw a code as if it's been removed?
I know this subject has been covered many times before, but there's so many different responses on this, I WANT TO KNOW THE RIGHT ANSWER!! lol

The smog pump is not hooked to any electronics.
When I had the TPI on my car I had removed the smog pump and no codes were thrown.

smog pump is useless and definitely not needed. Shouldnt throw a code but so what if it does it wont make it run bad.

I took all my smog equipment off and dont have any problems. Still have the stock exhaust manifolds, dont feel like putting my shorty super comps on the RS, they are going on the IROC. But no, no codes and a little bit nicer when it comes to working on the car.

The A.I.R. Pump is only needed in order to help the CAT burn off the enriched exhaust at start up, and it helps bring the CAT up to operating temp.
I work for a major OEM auto-parts manufacturer and on one of our assembly lines we make new electric A.I.R. Pumps for various auto manufacturers. These pumps only run for 20-40 seconds after the car is started and then they shut off.
Removing the A.I.R. Pump will not hurt the car or throw any codes. It could make you fail an emission test but that is about it.

I removed all the rubber hoses, I unbolted the box where the 2 plugs go, and everything connected to the smog pump.
The only things left are the actual smog pump itself, and the tube tube that goes to where the CAT used to be, and those are being removed tomorrow.
It's absolutely AMAZING how much cleaner the motor looks without it, cant wait to get rid of the pump..
I'll post pictures when it's complete
I can actually SEE my headers and spark plugs!!!
