i just purchased a 1984 camaro and when you start it you have to sit and rev the engine for about 5minutes or it will die. once your done doing that it will idle without dieing. but it also seems like it doesnt want to shift all that fast or takes a little bit longer than it should to shift when in drive. if someone coud please tell me whats wrong i would highly appreciate it, also if they could tell me what needs to be done to fix it that would be great too. thanks

 

Idle problem = choke not working

Shifting problem = try adjusting the TV cable per the correct procedure; if that doesn't get it, then it's something in the transmission
