Worth it or save for better?

I am thinking of getting AL heads and am wondering if these would be a good upgrade. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...6707456&rd=1,1

Car is 87 iroc 350 with HSR. Want good power and decent gas mileage, but want to get atleast into the 13s until i get forged internals and stroke it.
Would these heads work later with 383 with porting?

Depends on what you've got now...

If you still have your stock 083s, then no, that's a pretty low bang-to-buck ratio. If you have 882s or 193s or something, then yes they would be a MAJOR improvement.

On the other hand, if you have a 350 with a HSR on it and you're still in the 14s, then maybe you don't have 083s.... 13s should be virtually automatic with the inches and that intake...

Sounds to me like maybe you should tell us more about what you've got now.

I believe i have 083's. They are the stock heads. I never ran it at the track, but am getting anxious to because of the warm weather we have been having in illinois. All that is done to the car is flowmaster catback new cat with smog tube. I am going to delete the tube soon tho. I got hooker 2460s for christmas that i need to install after i get a y pipe or have 1 made which ever is the better deal. I also have a msd 6al i need to in stall along with new cap rotor and wires. I am going to make a custom cai for the fog lights and have a adj maf. Kn filters on along with a tpis 58mm TB. I am thinking i should run about 13 now, but i know that a cam and heads would def help. Also have a trans go shift kit with billet servos on mind sometime as well Stock 3.27 borg rear.

The MSD will do exactly nothing for your speed. Same for the bigger TB, the CAI, and most of the rest of that. Wasted time and effort. If you haven't already bought the TB and the MSD, don't; spend your money somewhere else. All that stuff does to a stock motor is to lighten the car, with the weight savings concentrated around the area of the driver's wallet.

The headers are critical though. That's the very first engine mod for one of these cars. Get the Hooker Y-pipe, "custom" ones don't usually save any money, and usually are nowhere near as good.

A torque converter is the next major powertrain upgrade you need. Leave the motor alone after you get the headers on it. The other upgrades you need are SFCs and LCA reloc brackets. Those 3 things right there will chop an amazing amount off of your times, probably by an amount equal to adding 75 HP to the motor, by improving your launch and traction. HUGE HUGE bang for the bucks.

Heck I'm hoping to break into the 14's with my mods. I ran a 15.41 at 90 with a 2.35 60 foot and hot engine. But I also had worn plugs, crappy old bald tires, and some launch issues. Good luck with Your 13's!
